with a Capitol riot<\/p>\n
And a new president,<\/p>\n
But D. Trump didn\u2019t buy it<\/p>\n

Tiger Woods crashed his car<\/p>\n
After one of his rounds<\/p>\n
\u2018Cause he couldn\u2019t drive straight<\/p>\n
So he drove out of bounds<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The news was still filled<\/p>\n
With street gangs and shooters<\/p>\n
And stores were still targets<\/p>\n
For bandits and looters<\/p>\n
OK, I was trying to write a creative and uplifting holiday poem, something recapping the year \u2013 both good and bad.\u00a0 But as I scanned the Internet searching for this year’s events, I saw nothing but bad news; how the pandemic was growing, then the Delta variant, then the Omicron variant.\u00a0 After reviewing this past year, all I had to show for it were symptoms of ‘writer’s block’ and I wondered if there was a shot for that – I’m thinking whiskey!<\/p>\n
Realizing that we were mostly dividing the country only with politics, we apparently needed something else to disagree What a year!\u00a0 Well, at least we ended the war in Afghanistan this year.\u00a0 OK, maybe that wasn’t handled particularly well either.<\/p>\n Crime in most major cities reached record highs this year, based on our tolerance for looting and the notion that the police should probably be defunded.<\/p>\n The whipped cream on top of the year’s sundae is that inflation has now raised its ugly head \u2013 so we’ve got that going for us.\u00a0 We didn’t need the Grinch to steal Christmas, we handled that on our own.\u00a0 Bring back the poem!<\/p>\n But some good things have happened<\/p>\n Like my reverse mortgage biz<\/p>\n So I think I’ll enjoy<\/p>\n Pops famous ice cream fizz<\/p>\n As a final insult this year, I got a note from Santa in my stocking saying, I\u2019ve read your blog and next year I\u2019m getting you a dictionary, a thesaurus and spellcheck!<\/p>\n So, this New Years, rather than wishing someone a “Happy New Year”, I’m going to wish them a Happier <\/em><\/strong>New Year \u2013 happier than the last two years!\u00a0 It\u2019s bound to be . . . right?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" by Bob Sparrow \u2018Twas the week after Christmas In a year of unrest Let\u2019s review what\u2019s just happened The worst and the best The year started out with a Capitol riot And a new president, But D. <\/a> on, so up pops the Coronavirus vaccine.\u00a0 Was it effective?\u00a0 Was it too soon?\u00a0 Was it science?\u00a0 Was it politics?\u00a0 Was it the bottom line for pharmaceutical companies?\u00a0 We’ve been told to ‘believe the science,’ but the science seems to be on whatever side you want it to be on.\u00a0 So now we’ve got people who believe the vaccine will save lives and others who believe the vaccine will cost lives. \u00a0And some that just say they aren’t going to let the government tell them what to do.<\/p>\n
