<\/a>Diamonds in the Desert<\/p><\/div>\n
Before desert temperatures reached the triple digits, we made two last treks to two different deserts in March to visit our diamonds in the deserts.<\/p>\n
Our mid-March trip took us to some old haunts surrounding our Marriott Desert Springs Palm Desert <\/strong>timeshare.\u00a0 Yes, there was plenty of golf, dining, and stories with the \u2018Great Eight\u2019<\/strong> \u2013 the Budds<\/strong>, the Sagers<\/strong> and the VanBoxmeers<\/strong> (Linda and I would make eight in case you were wondering about the math!), but it was the other people we met, that live there, (at least part-time) that turned the trip from great to awesome!<\/p>\n Ed & Stacy Hunter at Indian Ridge<\/p><\/div>\n Diamond One!\u00a0 <\/strong>We were invited to dinner at the home of Ed & Stacy Hunter<\/strong>, who live, during the winter, at Indian Ridge Country Club<\/strong>, a private golf club that has two magnificent golf courses and beautiful and immaculately kept grounds.\u00a0 The Hunter\u2019s home sits on a ridge with an amazing view of the golf course (the attached photo doesn\u2019t do it justice).\u00a0 Ed collects wine and whiskeys, and suffice it to say that we certainly consumed more than our share, but didn\u2019t put a dent in his stash.\u00a0 Stacy is the consummate hostess, serving an exquisite tray of charcuterie followed by a delicious dinner.<\/p>\n Diamond Two!<\/strong>\u00a0 Two days later, we were invited for dinner at the home of Walt & Patty Schwartz<\/strong>, at Trilogy at the Polo Club<\/strong> in Indio, next to the Plantation Golf Club<\/strong>, which could be the subject of a future blog.\u00a0 And while the view may not have been as grand, with Walt playing the consummate \u2018straight man\u2019 for Patty\u2019s razor-sharp wit, the evening was filled with many stories and much laughter.\u00a0 Oh yeah, and a magnificent charcuterie tray and another delicious dinner with plenty of wine.<\/p>\n Patty & Walt Schwartz<\/p><\/div>\n Linda & Starlet petting a dinosaur<\/p><\/div>\n Diamond Three!\u00a0 <\/strong>Three days after returning from Palm Desert we set out for the Sonoran Desert<\/strong>, which includes much of Arizona.\u00a0 Our first stop was Apache Junction<\/strong>, and a visit with Linda\u2019s sister and husband, Starlet & Donnie Brummer<\/strong>.\u00a0 Starlet\u2019s daughter, Denise<\/strong> and her husband, Gene Cobb<\/strong> were also visiting from Minnesota and are always great to be around.\u00a0 Friends, Bill & Kay Pompei<\/strong>, from Minnesota, who also spend the winter in Arizona stopped by for dinner and cards.\u00a0 Kay provided me with several subjects for future blogs – thank you!\u00a0 The following day, Starlet, Linda and I played one of the best golf courses I\u2019ve ever played, Dinosaur Mountain at Gold Canyon<\/strong>.\u00a0 Not only was the golf course magnificent, but the surrounding mountains and spectacular homes on the course were jaw-dropping.\u00a0 A picture-perfect day made it the most enjoyable round of golf in a long time.\u00a0 If you have a chance, play this course, you\u2019ll love it!<\/p>\n Your co-writers<\/p><\/div>\n Diamond Four!\u00a0 <\/strong>Four days into our trip we made our final stop at Scottsdale\u2019s beautiful golf community, Desert Highlands<\/strong> to visit my sister and co-writer, Suzanne<\/strong> and husband, Alan Watson<\/strong>, as well as \u2018Dash the Wonder Dog\u2019<\/strong>. While Suzanne and I text, talk or email weekly, we rarely get a chance to see each other, so it\u2019s always special when we get together. \u00a0When I explained to her that I was writing this week’s blog about our visits to our \u2018Diamonds in the Desert\u2019, and that our visit with them would be number four, she replied, \u201cI hope you don\u2019t label us as the \u2018Cubic Zirconium\u2019<\/strong> visit!\u201d\u00a0 Not a chance!\u00a0 We had a great time visiting and then dinner at their beautifully remodeled golf club house, as the sun set beneath a beautiful \u2018Arizona red\u2019 sky.\u00a0 The perfect ending to the many facets of our visit to our Diamonds in the Desert.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" by Bob Sparrow Before desert temperatures reached the triple digits, we made two last treks to two different deserts in March to visit our diamonds in the deserts.
