{"id":12504,"date":"2024-04-01T09:00:50","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T16:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?p=12504"},"modified":"2024-03-31T12:46:18","modified_gmt":"2024-03-31T19:46:18","slug":"this-will-be-our-last-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?p=12504","title":{"rendered":"Sadly This Will Be Our Last Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Bob Sparrow<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?attachment_id=12505\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12505\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-12505 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/tragedy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"259\" \/><\/a>Suzanne and I have made a tough decision, based on personal factors, after nearly 13 years of first, <strong><em>Morning News in Verse<\/em>,<\/strong> which appeared every Tuesday and Friday from August 2011 to March 2012, then <em><strong>From A Bird\u2019s Eye View<\/strong>, <\/em>which has appeared every Monday morning from March 2012 until today, that <strong>this will be our last blog<\/strong> . . . <sub>this week.<\/sub><\/p>\n<p><sub>\u00a0<\/sub>OK, when I haven\u2019t been traveling, the history of the most current holiday seems to attract my attention, and this week, rather than try to explain why we celebrated the resurrection of Christ by hiding colorful bunny eggs, I decided to explore April Fool\u2019s Day.\u00a0 I know it&#8217;s not really a holiday, it\u2019s a . . . well, I\u2019m not sure what it is!!\u00a0 But, I\u2019m sure you are sitting on pins and needles wondering, \u201cWhat the heck is the incredible history of this crazy day?\u201d\u00a0 Well, wonder no more.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe you better keep wondering, as April Fool\u2019s Day\u2019s true origin is unknown and probably unknowable.\u00a0 What you may not know is that the day is celebrated around the world, in many different ways.\u00a0 To wit . . .<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Ireland<\/strong>, it is traditional to entrust the victim with an &#8220;important letter&#8221; to be given to a named person. That person would read the letter, then ask the victim to take it to someone else, and so on. The letter when opened contained the words <strong>&#8220;send the fool further&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Danes, Finns, Icelanders, Norwegians <\/strong>and<strong> Swedes<\/strong> celebrate April Fools&#8217; Day with most news media outlets publishing one false story on the front page of their local newspaper.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Poland<\/strong>, April 1 has been a\u00a0traditional day of pranks, where very sophisticated hoaxes are perpetrated by people, media<a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?attachment_id=12506\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12506\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-12506 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Born-yesterday.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Born-yesterday.jpg 225w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Born-yesterday-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a> and even public institutions. \u00a0Serious activities are usually avoided; every word said on April 1st could be untrue, as a day of pranks is a centuries-long tradition, but it only lasts until noon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In France<\/strong> where the fool was called an \u2018April Fish\u2019 instead of an \u2018April Fool\u2019; due to the prank of taping a paper fish to someone\u2019s back without them knowing it. (Replaced by &#8216;Kick Me&#8217; in the U.S.)\u00a0 On a possible historic note, in France, in 1564, <strong>Charles IX<\/strong>\u00a0decreed that the new year would no longer begin on Easter, as had been common throughout Christendom, but rather on January 1.
