Lassen Club<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12648\" style=\"width: 410px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?attachment_id=12648\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12648\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12648\" class=\"wp-image-12648\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Fryer-house-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Fryer-house-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Fryer-house-1024x765.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Fryer-house-768x574.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Fryer-house-1536x1148.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Fryer-house-2048x1531.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12648\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Don &amp; Marjie&#8217;s home from their dock<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We were not prepared for what was to come next, we had arranged to meet friends and fellow <strong>Yorba Linda Country Club<\/strong> members, <strong>Don &amp; Marjie Fryer.<\/strong>\u00a0 They gave us directions to their home in a <strong>gate-guarded community on \u2018the peninsula\u2019<\/strong> of Lake Almanor.\u00a0 Before entering \u2018the peninsula\u2019 we drove past a most beautiful golf course, <strong>Bailey Creek<\/strong>, of which, Don &amp; Marjie are members.\u00a0 We drove almost to the end of the peninsula driving past beautiful home after beautiful home, until we reached the beautiful home of Don &amp; Marjie.\u00a0 The photos don\u2019t do it justice!\u00a0 They welcomed us with open arms and a <strong>mango margarita<\/strong>, and then we got on their boat and cruised the lake on this beautiful afternoon, looking at all the spectacular homes on this perfectly sunny, cloudless day. We came back to the Fryer home and sat on their deck and probably, I can\u2019t remember now, had a drink or two.\u00a0 We went to dinner at a local Italian restaurant with the Fryers and their friends Rex and Jan.\u00a0 We sat outside, told stories, and laughed all the way through dinner. \u00a0Back at the <strong>Fryer Estate<\/strong>, we had an after-dinner cocktail as we watched the sunset behind Mt. Lasen.\u00a0 What an awesome day!!!!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12649\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?attachment_id=12649\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12649\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12649\" class=\"wp-image-12649 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sunset-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sunset-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sunset-1024x691.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sunset-768x518.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sunset-1536x1037.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/sunset-2048x1383.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12649\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sunset over Lake Almanor<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Sadly, we leave the Fryer home the next morning and head to <strong>Quincy<\/strong>.\u00a0 We wanted to visit Quincy on our way to<strong> Lake Tahoe<\/strong> because we used to vacation there when we were kids.\u00a0 Jack, who has an amazing memory, told me to drive seven miles out of town, tuned down a dead-end road that had a store on the corner and low and behold, we found the old house that we used to vacation in, which was owned by the Schieck family.\u00a0 After a drive down a long, dirt driveway, we tried to get the attention of anyone inside the cabin, but to no avail, so we headed back on the road to Tahoe.<\/p>\n<p>When getting to Lake Tahoe we were going to visit the site of our parents ashes on <strong>Rocky Ridge<\/strong>, but the road was partly closed, so we decided to go to lunch, first at <strong>Sunnyside<\/strong>, closed until 4:00; then <strong>Jake\u2019s on the Lake<\/strong>, closed, We looked to see if there was still water in Lake Tahoe!!\u00a0 There was, lots of it!\u00a0 So we went to an old haunt, <strong>Pete &amp; Peters Bar<\/strong>, which turned out to be the best choice, as Jack, who lived and operated a restaurant at Tahoe for 14 years, ran into four people he knew and talked to a fifth person on the phone.\u00a0 I just quietly drank my beer.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12653\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?attachment_id=12653\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12653\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12653\" class=\"wp-image-12653 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Pete-Peters-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Pete-Peters-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Pete-Peters-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Pete-Peters-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Pete-Peters-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Pete-Peters-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12653\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jack at Pete &amp; Peter&#8217;s Bar &amp; Grill in Tahoe City with old cronies Yates and bartender, Dana<\/p><\/div>\n<p>After lunch and a couple of beers, we headed down the west shore of Lake Tahoe, and drove by the cabin that was owned by our parents\u2019 best friend, Dick Schieck, where we vacationed every summer for many years, we also checked out the cabin right next to it as that was owned my college roommate Ken Poulsen and me.\u00a0 As we drove along the west side of Tahoe, we passed familiar spots like<strong> Rocky Beach<\/strong> and <strong>Meek\u2019s &amp; Emerald Bay<\/strong>,\u00a0finally arriving at <strong>Harrah\u2019s<\/strong> at the south end of the lake.\u00a0 We got a nice room with a view of the lake and headed to the casino, which was rather dark and dingy. \u00a0After a quick donation at the craps table, I joined Jack at the only black jack table in the casino, but it wasn\u2019t really black jack, the dealer was still in the game if he got to <strong>22<\/strong>!!\u00a0 After the slow torture from a hot dealer, and $150 later, we decided that luck was not with us today in the casino.\u00a0 A quiet dinner and to bed early.<\/p>\n<p>We woke up early the next morning (another perfect day) and looked forward to our trip to the <strong>\u2018Mother Lode Country\u2019<\/strong>, home of Mark Twain&#8217;s, <em>The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calvarias County<\/em>, which was just the weekend before.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next blog: Road Trip: The Gold Country and Back Home Again<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Bob Sparrow Our drive from Alturas to Lake Almanor was magnificent on this perfect-weather day, although I must admit that part of the excitement was knowing we were leaving Alturas.\u00a0 We have never seen so many pine trees, both &hellip;
