The game should be called Super Buck instead of Super Bowl.\u00a0 Super Bore might be a better name for Sunday&#8217;s game. The ads and who&#8217;s in the stands and maybe the halftime show were more entertaining than the game. So lets talk about the money, who&#8217;s watching, and then a story about a long-forgotten Super Bowl hero. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Show Me the Money<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The lowest Super Bowl ticket was priced at $4,750 and the most expensive at <strong>$17,842<\/strong>, NOT INCLUDING FEES!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The last ten 30 second ads average $7m sold by Fox, and reached a record <strong>$8,000,000<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With last year\u2019s Super Bowl going into overtime, it was estimated that CBS earned <strong>$695 million <\/strong>in ad revenue for that one game!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tom Brady, who never fails to mention that he played in 10 Super Bowls, won 7, and this year appeared in his first as an announcer, has a 10-year contract worth $375 million!\u00a0 He&#8217;s way overpaid, in my opinion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By hosting the Super Bowl, New Orleans received an economic boost of over <strong>$500 million<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each winning team member will take home <strong>$164,000<\/strong>, the losers will have to get by for the day on <strong>$89,000<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to SB Nation, the league finally gave up its tax-exempt status in<strong><u> 2015<\/u><\/strong>, after over 70 years of being on the books as a <strong>&#8220;nonprofit.&#8221;<\/strong>  Really??!!!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why do people watch the game?<\/strong><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt;font-family:&quot;Arial&quot;,sans-serif;mso-fareast-font-family:\n&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\"><\/span><br><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"959\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Taylor.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13242\" style=\"width:398px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Taylor.webp 959w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Taylor-300x200.webp 300w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Taylor-768x513.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 959px) 100vw, 959px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Taylor Swift Effect<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>43% say the game is the most important part<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>19% say the halftime show is most important<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>17% say the TV ads are most important<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>The Taylor Swift Effect<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Last year, 58.8 million&nbsp;<strong>women <\/strong>watched Super Bowl LVIII, which was a record high.&nbsp;This was <strong>47.5% of the total audience,<\/strong> also a record high.&nbsp; It\u2019s informally called \u2018<em>The Taylor Swift Effect\u2019<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OK, enough of the numbers, the next story is, in my opinion, one of the most memorable of all Super Bowl stories, and it happened in the very first Super Bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first Super Bowl was in 1967 between the <strong>Green Bay Packers<\/strong> and, who else, the <strong>Kansas City Chiefs<\/strong>, in the <strong>Los Angeles Coliseum<\/strong>.&nbsp; The night before the game, two Packer players known to have a cocktail or two, <strong>Paul Hornung<\/strong> and <strong>Max McGee<\/strong>, broke curfew and went \u2018out on the town\u2019 with two flight attendants.&nbsp; Hornung had a pinched nerve in his neck and knew he would not play in tomorrow&#8217;s game.&nbsp; McGee, a veteran player in the last season of his career, was a backup receiver who had only caught <strong>four balls<\/strong> <strong>all season<\/strong> and would retire after the game.&nbsp; Max rolled in on the morning of the Super Bowl at 6:30 and ran into quarterback <strong>Bart Starr<\/strong> in the hotel hall, who remarked about Max being an early riser!&nbsp; Before the game, in which Max planned to sit on the bench and nurse his hangover, he told the starting receiver, <strong>Boyd Dowler<\/strong>, <em>\u201cYou better not get hurt, because I&#8217;m in no shape to play.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"518\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Max-1024x518.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13243\" style=\"width:530px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Max-1024x518.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Max-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Max-768x389.jpg 768w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Max.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Max McGee &#8211; hungover hero of Super Bowl I<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>As fate would have it, Dowler got hurt early in the first quarter of the game, so Max McGee grabbed the nearest helmet, which happened to be a lineman\u2019s helmet with a fairly large cage on it, and entered the game.&nbsp; He makes a one-handed catch for the <strong>Super Bowl\u2019s first-ever touchdown<\/strong> and ends up making seven catches for 138 yards for two touchdowns.  The Packers handily beat the Chiefs 35-10.
