The Eagles<\/p><\/div>\n

I recently watched a documentary on my favorite band, \u2018History of the Eagles\u2019<\/strong> on the\u00a0Showtime Channel<\/strong>. If you\u2019re an Eagles\u2019 fan this is a must see; even if you\u2019re not, it\u2019s still great music history. \u00a0So the first week of April as we headed out to Palm Desert for our 19th<\/sup> year of enjoying our timeshare, I was mixing my metaphors, dangling my modifiers and juxtaposing the reminiscing of the Eagles documentary and the looking forward to my hedonistic week in the lush environs of Palm Desert<\/strong>. \u00a0It created a strange concoction in my head \u2013 I present it forthwith.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair<\/i><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air<\/i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

For the uninitiated, colitas is the small, sweet buds at the end of the cannabis plant that makes for what was colloquially known in the \u201870s as \u2018good shit\u2019. \u00a0This week we\u2019ll enjoy the sweet smell of a good cabernet.<\/p>\n

So I called up the captain, please bring me my wine<\/i><\/p>\n

He said we haven\u2019t had that spirit here since 1969<\/i><\/p>\n

Marriott Desert Springs Hotel<\/p><\/div>\n

It\u2019s hard to think of the Eagles and not think of their biggest hit, \u2018Hotel California\u2019<\/i><\/strong>.\u00a0 There have been many interpretations of the meaning of the lyrics of that song, the most common is that it\u2019s an interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles. \u00a0So this week I\u2019m loosely translating it to represent my decedent week in the desert where we eat at great restaurants, drink expensive wine and play luxurious golf courses.\u00a0 Because it combines Life in the Fast Lane<\/strong> <\/i>and a Peaceful Easy Feeling<\/strong>, <\/i>I have concluded that the Marriott Desert Springs Hotel is my<\/i> \u2018Hotel California\u2019<\/strong>. \u00a0The lyrics echoed in my head . . .<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Welcome to the Hotel California<\/i><\/p>\n

Any time of year, you can find it here.<\/i><\/p>\n

\"Marriott<\/a>\u00a0Yes, you can find it there in Palm Desert, but you may not want to find it \u2018any time of year\u2019; in the summer it\u2019s not such a \u2018lovely place\u2019, but in early spring \u2013 awesome!<\/p>\n

One of the great features of this timeshare is that it\u2019s an hour and half\u2019s drive from home; so no airports, delayed flights, missed connections or airplane food; and yet once you\u2019re there you feel like you’re in a whole different world \u2013 perhaps because you are.<\/p>\n

Some dance to remember<\/i><\/p>\n

And there are some of us that have just forgotten how to dance altogether, but the images dancing in my head of desert nights, desert skies, desert flowers, desert sunsets silhouetting Mt. San Jacinto in the distance and billion stars in the sky are simply magnificent.<\/p>\n

Relax said the nightman, you are programed to receive,<\/i><\/p>\n

You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave<\/i><\/p>\n

Actually check-out is by 11:00 a.m. or you\u2019re subject to late fees, but after a week of ‘Desert Decadence’, it’s time to go home.\"Hole<\/a><\/p>\n

Hotel California<\/em> ends with, if not the greatest, one of the greatest guitar riffs in rock and roll history, I\u2019ll conclude with:<\/p>\n

  2. Listen to some Eagles music, if you don\u2019t have any, GET SOME!<\/li>\n
  3. Enjoy a week of\u00a0indulgence; you’ve earned it . . . probably<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
