<\/a>First, I want to thank those who follow us here by subscribing to our blog and especially those who take the time to comment on the subject of the week.\u00a0 Second, I\u2019d like to sincerely thank those who have been following my quest to become Jauntaroo\u2019s first Chief World Explorer, which you know by now has consumed me.\u00a0 It has been an awesome experience, one that has helped me understand what I really want to do when I grow up.\u00a0 OK, I\u2019m never growing up, just growing older.<\/p>\nBut I must say, in many cases, it\u2019s been a real challenge to get my peers to \u2018Like\u2019 my video.\u00a0 Not that they wouldn\u2019t like it if they saw it, it\u2019s just that they\u2019re . . . how can I put this delicately, social media challenged.\u00a0 Following is a sample of what I mean.<\/p>\n
Me: \u201cWere you able to see my video and \u2018Like\u2019 it?\u201d<\/p>\n
Senior: \u201cDidn\u2019t see it so can\u2019t tell you if I liked it.\u00a0 Where was it?\u201d<\/p>\n
Me: \u201cYou can pick up the URL on my Facebook page that will take you to the video link\u201d<\/p>\n
Senior: \u201cSay what?\u00a0 I don\u2019t have Faceplant\u201d<\/p>\n
Me: \u201cThat\u2019s Facebook\u201d \u00a0 \u00a0 Senior: \u201cWhatever\u201d<\/p>\n Me: \u201cI also tweeted it on Twitter\u201d<\/p>\n Senior: \u201cYou did what?\u201d<\/p>\n Me: \u201cNever mind. What about LinkedIn?\u201d<\/p>\n Senior: \u201cWhat about him?\u00a0 I thought he was one of our greatest presidents\u201d<\/p>\n Me: \u201cNot Lincoln, LinkedIn. Did you see the blog?\u201d<\/p>\n Senior: \u201cThe Blob, wasn\u2019t that a \u201850s science fiction movie?\u201d<\/p>\n Me: No, do you have an iPhone, iPad?\u201d<\/p>\n Senior: \u201ciRefuse\u201d<\/p>\n Me: \u201cHey, I need your help here, I\u2019m trying to get this thing to go viral\u201d<\/p>\n Senior: \u201cSorry, don\u2019t they have shots for that now?\u201d\u00a0 Me: \u00a0\u201cYeah, thanks.\u00a0 What about Instagram?\u201d<\/p>\n Senior: \u201cIs that Billy Graham\u2019s sister?\u201d<\/p>\n Me: \u201cPinterest?\u201d<\/p>\n Senior: \u201cNo, I\u2019ve lost interest, mind if I go back to reading my newspaper?\u201d<\/p>\n OK, it\u2019s not quite that bad, but it\u2019s based on true stories.\u00a0 To be fair, there are many of my peers who are very tech savvy, but risking their indignation, I\u2019ve asked those over fifty to pass my \u2018voting messages\u2019 on to their children, and in some cases their grandchildren.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re reading this, you\u2019re clearly not the people I\u2019m talking about above, so as Jack Kennedy\u2019s presidential campaign manager in Chicago said, \u201cVote early and vote often\u201d.\u00a0 At: http:\/\/www.bestjobaroundtheworld.com\/submissions\/view\/4459<\/a><\/p>\n Thank you<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" by Bob Sparrow First, I want to thank those who follow us here by subscribing to our blog and especially those who take the time to comment on the subject of the week.\u00a0 Second, I\u2019d like to sincerely thank those … read more<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>Here\u2019s the paradoxical thing about all this \u2013 the demographic that is now in their peak earning years or retiring, the Baby Boomers, have the time, interest and wealth to travel, yet it is the group that seems antidotally at least, the hardest to reach electronically.\u00a0 The percentage of those 50 and older who get most of their news from the Internet drops significantly from the younger-than-50 group and the numbers for the 65+ group drop even more dramatically. \u00a0So, how does a relatively new travel company like Jauntaroo get the attention of this critical demographic?\u00a0 I have some ideas, but they\u2019re going to have to hire me in order to hear them.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
