{"id":3087,"date":"2014-07-25T06:00:04","date_gmt":"2014-07-25T13:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?p=3087"},"modified":"2014-07-24T17:50:18","modified_gmt":"2014-07-25T00:50:18","slug":"my-real-next-adventure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?p=3087","title":{"rendered":"My Real &#8216;Next Adventure&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Bob Sparrow<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/yogi.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3088\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/yogi.jpeg\" alt=\"yogi\" width=\"205\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a>Since returning from <strong>Nepal<\/strong>, I have been asked a number of times about my next adventure; it seems some of you folks take a perverse pleasure in watching me bust my ass in some far-off, third-world country. I am indeed embarking on my next adventure and no, it\u2019s not to <strong>Yemen, Somalia, Syria<\/strong> or the <strong>Antarctica<\/strong> \u201cjust before they close it for the winter\u201d \u2013 but thank you Sister Suzanne and several loyal subscribers for your amusing, albeit life-threatening, suggestions. I\u2019m trading in that 26-hour, back-wrenching, butt-numbing flight, for a short hop within the <strong>U.S.<\/strong> borders this time. And while this trip may not be as exotic as traveling through <strong>Nepal<\/strong>, I\u2019m hoping it will provide a unique look at the spectacular beauty of my favorite part of the country.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll have more company on this adventure, as it will be with couples from \u2018the \u2018hood\u2019, affectionately, or maybe that\u2019s \u2018infectionately\u2019, referred to as the <strong>\u2018Hoodwink Hikers\u2019<\/strong>. The <strong>\u2018Hoodwink Hikers\u2019<\/strong> include our <strong>\u2018Trail Boss\u2019, Patrick<\/strong> (my <strong>Nepal<\/strong> companion) and his wife, <strong>Pam<\/strong>; long-time close friends, <strong>Mark &amp; Kathy<\/strong>; the comic relief couple, <strong>Bob &amp; Jeanne<\/strong> and <strong>Linda<\/strong> and me. We are headed to the \u2018<strong>Intermountain West<\/strong>\u2019 for some hiking and hijinks, not necessarily in that order.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3089\" style=\"width: 215px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/WC.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3089\" class=\"wp-image-3089\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/WC.jpeg\" alt=\"WC\" width=\"205\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3089\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8216;The Harvard of the West&#8217;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Our plan is to fly into <strong>Salt Lake City<\/strong> (home to my son\u2019s and my alma mater, <strong>Westminster College<\/strong>, or as we alums like to refer to it, the <em>\u2018<strong>Harvard of the West<\/strong><\/em><strong>\u2019<\/strong>), take the beautiful drive from Salt Lake to the Old West town of <strong>Jackson Hole, Wyoming<\/strong>, which sits in the shadow of the <strong>Grand Teton Mountains<\/strong>. We\u2019ll spend a couple of days cavorting in the surrounding environs then head to <strong>Yellowstone Nat\u2019l Park<\/strong>. Once we\u2019ve seen <strong>\u2018Old Faithful\u2019<\/strong> and <strong>Yogi Bear<\/strong> (or is that in <strong>Jellystone Nat\u2019l Park<\/strong>?) we\u2019ll continue north to join another couple from the \u2018hood, <strong>Mike &amp; Tanis<\/strong>, who have a second home on <strong>Flathead Lake<\/strong> in <strong>Polson, Montana<\/strong>. We figure to wear out our welcome there after a couple of days, so we\u2019ll be heading further north to <strong>Lake McDonald<\/strong>, which is in scenic <strong>Glacier Nat\u2019l Park<\/strong>, where we\u2019ll do some hiking. Some will hike and some will take a tour bus on the picturesque road over the <strong>Continental Divide<\/strong> called, <strong>\u2018Going To The Sun Road\u2019<\/strong> (sounds long . . . and hot!). We\u2019ll then journey on to <strong>Many <\/strong>(pronounced Manny) <strong>Glacier<\/strong> for a night.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3090\" style=\"width: 215px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Jackson-Hole.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3090\" class=\"wp-image-3090\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Jackson-Hole-300x160.jpeg\" alt=\"Jackson Hole\" width=\"205\" height=\"110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Jackson-Hole-300x160.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Jackson-Hole.jpeg 306w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3090\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Exclusive Hotel in Jackson Hole<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Our final stop will be so far north that it\u2019s south . . . south <strong>Canada<\/strong> \u2013 a place called <strong>Prince of Wales<\/strong> in <strong>Alberta<\/strong>, where we\u2019ll stay in a majestic old \u2018railroad hotel\u2019 in the <strong>Canadian Rockies<\/strong>. We will then drive back to <strong>Kalispell, Montana<\/strong> (assuming they will let us back into the country) and fly home.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the plan, but anyone who\u2019s been following our blog, knows that sometimes we deviate from the plan \u2013 and with this group of deviates, no plan is safe. Connectivity permitting, I\u2019ll try to post what we actually do and maybe even include some videos, if my son shows me how to do that before we leave. Hope you tag along and enjoy the trip.
