With Suzanne\u2019s<\/strong> well-written admonitions still echoing in our heads from last week, I thought the weighty topic of Los Angeles<\/strong> and professional football<\/strong> would be an appropriate blog subject as a break from our tax-dulled senses.\u00a0 Metaphorically speaking, if taxes<\/strong> and dying in San Francisco<\/strong> were a rodeo<\/strong>, this blog is the clown<\/strong> that jumps out of the barrel to distract the bull, maybe in this case to sling the bull.<\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0Like many of you, I couldn\u2019t care less whether LA ever gets a professional football team; I am a 49ers<\/strong> fan for life who wouldn\u2019t drive to LA to see a game if I had a seat next to Kate Upton<\/strong> . . . OK, maybe then, but I wouldn\u2019t be watching the game! \u00a0I do, however, miss that 49ers-Rams<\/strong> \u2018north-south\u2019 rivalry and so have paid some attention to all the talk lately around various billionaires building space-age stadiums (paid for with our tax dollars \u2013 Oops, I was trying not to mention taxes) in various parts of the city to attract an NFL<\/strong> team.\u00a0 So why am I convinced that the country\u2019s second largest media market, which once had two NFL teams<\/strong>, will not be getting another one anytime soon?<\/p>\n New L.A. stadium . . . in their dreams!<\/p><\/div>\n First, after USC\u2019s Reggie Bush<\/strong> took a pay cut<\/strong> to go to the NFL<\/strong> a few years back, some would suggest that LA already has a professional football team, but that would be a cheap shot.<\/p>\n The main reason for no team in LA is the make up of the LA fan.\u00a0 I have observed three types<\/strong>; the first<\/strong> have luxury boxes and are notorious for \u2018making an entrance\u2019<\/strong> sociably late to the game, wearing the latest fashions and then, after being seen, leaving early to avoid the congestion getting out of the parking lot.\u00a0 The limited time they are at the game is used for consuming their Beef Wellington hot dogs<\/strong>, truffle fries<\/strong> and Bombay Safire martinis<\/strong>.\u00a0 These are the fans that would root for their team to \u2018kick a touchdown\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Part of the ‘Raider Nation’ Gang<\/p><\/div>\n The third<\/strong> type of fan are the ones left over from the Oakland Raiders<\/strong> 12-year, forgot-to-pay-the-rent visit to Los Angeles<\/strong>.\u00a0 This group, who dressed like every game was Halloween<\/strong>, are not so much crowd members as they are\u00a0\u2018gang members\u2019<\/strong>.\u00a0 With this group the NFL would be concerned that if an LA team lost a game or the refs made a bad call that these guys would riot in the streets and then go home and burn their own houses down. \u00a0Game food for this gang is Beer Chicken<\/strong>, hold the chicken.<\/p>\n Miley’s ‘V’ for Victory<\/p><\/div>\n The other NFL franchise owners<\/strong> are another reason why LA will never have a team. \u00a0They must approve any move to a new city by any other current team, so each team\u2019s owner, always looking to get stadium up-grades (from city taxes – dang, there I go again!), threatens to move to LA \u2013 eventually their city acquiesces and the owners breathe a big sigh of relief that they don\u2019t have to move their team, and themselves, to ‘the land of fruits and nuts’<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The NFL might also be concerned that a ‘Tinsel Town’ team might employ people like Miley Cyrus<\/strong>, the Kardashian<\/strong> sisters<\/strong> and\u00a0Bruce Jenner<\/strong> as their\u00a0cheerleaders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n L.A.’s new mascot?<\/p><\/div>\n In the true spirit of Los Angeles football, one potential owner already indicated his choice for a mascot when he said, \u201c The team mascot should be\u00a0The White Broncos<\/strong>, to commemorate O.J. Simpson\u2019s<\/strong> infamous police chase through the city.\u201d<\/p>\n Don’t worry, it ain’t gonna happen!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" by Bob Sparrow With Suzanne\u2019s well-written admonitions still echoing in our heads from last week, I thought the weighty topic of Los Angeles and professional football would be an appropriate blog subject as a break from our tax-dulled senses.\u00a0 Metaphorically … read more<\/a><\/a>The second<\/strong> type of fan are those that are not originally from Los Angeles<\/strong>, which is about 80%<\/strong> of the southern California<\/strong> population.\u00a0 The only time they go to a game is when their hometown team comes into town to play.\u00a0 Those from Chicago<\/strong>, for example, even though they left the ‘Windy City’<\/strong>\u00a020 years ago, would not give up rooting for \u2018da Bears<\/strong>\u2019 in favor of rooting for the \u2018L.A. La De Dahs<\/strong>\u2019.\u00a0 I personally was part of this group when Rams<\/strong> games were being played in Orange County<\/strong>; when the 49ers came to town, I’d go to the games and there would be a sea, make that a bay, of San Francisco red and gold\u00a0<\/strong>covering the entire stadium. \u00a0The NFL<\/strong>\u00a0is concerned that these are the fans that would get beat up, by the third type of fan, in the parking lot after the game for wearing the visiting team’s colors.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/a><\/a>
