and we\u2019ve certainly had plenty of opportunity since Halloween, as radios and department stores remind us that it \u2018tis the season\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Some of you will remember a short while back when the lyrics to <strong><em>\u2018Baby It\u2019s Cold Outside\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, were assailed by the \u2018Me Toos\u2019 for manipulative tactics of a guy using the cold weather to keep a female from going home on a cold winter&#8217;s night.\u00a0 So why isn&#8217;t someone outraged when it come the <em><strong>Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer<\/strong><\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Sure, on the surface it seems like a benign enough, feel good, Christmas carol, about a reindeer that helps Santa and the other reindeer, find their way to our homes on a foggy Christmas Eve.\u00a0 But have you ever <em>really <\/em>listened to the lyrics?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>They never let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but this sounds like bullying to me \u2013 laughing at him and calling him names and excluding him from whatever games reindeer play.\u00a0 But once Santa and the reindeer realize that what makes him odd, his bright shiny red nose, is now a benefit to them; well . . .<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9610\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?attachment_id=9610\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9610\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9610\" class=\"wp-image-9610\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/rudolph2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9610\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rudolph with antlers<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>Then how the reindeer loved him, as they shouted out with glee<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer, you\u2019ll go down in history<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Aside from trying to imagine a reindeer shouting out with glee, it seems that all is forgotten and Rudolph will be going down in history as <strong>the most famous reindeer of all<\/strong> &#8211; which clearly irks <strong>Dasher<\/strong> and the gang.\u00a0 But, if you really think about it, which clearly I have, isn&#8217;t it cruel to be calling him by the derisive moniker<strong> \u2018red-nosed\u2019<\/strong>, as not to confuse him with the rest of the reindeer with normal colored noses?\u00a0 What if they called <strong>Donner<\/strong> the \u2018clubbed-foot\u2019 reindeer and <strong>Blitzen<\/strong> the \u2018lisping\u2019 reindeer, or <strong>Prancer<\/strong> the &#8216;anal leakage&#8217; reindeer?<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s more.\u00a0 It is a little-known fact that both male and\u00a0<strong>female reindeer\u00a0grow\u00a0antlers<\/strong>!\u00a0 Males drop their antlers\u00a0in November, leaving them without\u00a0antlers until the following spring, while females keep their antlers through the winter until their calves are born in May.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9613\" style=\"width: 193px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/?attachment_id=9613\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9613\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9613\" class=\"wp-image-9613 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/reindeer-bball.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"183\" height=\"275\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9613\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Cupid<\/strong> keeping the ball from Rudolph<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Pictures of <strong>Rudolph<\/strong> and the rest of the reindeer typically show them pulling Santa&#8217;s sleigh, so we can reasonably assume that it is the month of December and thus a male reindeer would have no antlers.\u00a0 The pictures of Santa and his reindeer almost always show all the deer but Rudolph, with antlers; so since the pictures are in December, we know that Comet, et. al, are all female.\u00a0 Pictures of Rudolph are mixed, showing him\/her both with and without antlers.\u00a0 So, his name, Rudolph and the song&#8217;s lyrics referring to &#8216;him&#8217; or &#8216;he&#8217;, would suggest that he is a male, but antlers would tell us that she is female.\u00a0 That&#8217;s OK to be questioning, but it makes one wonder if this, in fact, is the source of the bullying by this <strong>team of catty reindeer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And of course no one ever thinks about what happens after Christmas Eve, when there is no longer a need for Rudolph and his <strong>scarlet beacon<\/strong>.\u00a0 One can only surmise that by Christmas Day the reindeer have probably return to their malicious name-calling.\u00a0 I envision the reindeer playing a pick-up game of<strong> 4-on-4 basketball<\/strong>, as Rudolph sits on the sidelines, watching and hoping that next Christmas Eve will also be foggy.<\/p>\n<p>OK, I admit it, I have too much time on my hands!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Bob Sparrow Do you ever really listen to the lyrics of Christmas carols?\u00a0 I do;
