<\/a><\/p>\nTwo roads diverged in to a wood, and I<\/em><\/p>\n Took the one less traveled by ,<\/em><\/p>\n And that has made all the difference.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Robert Frost<\/p>\n No, this is will not be a dissertation on Robert Frost\u2019s<\/strong> most-misunderstood poem, but rather the musings of this traveler, who has found too many \u2018Road Closed\u2019<\/strong> signs during this pathetic pandemic!\u00a0 They are all roads not taken!<\/p>\n And while I have thought that I was on this mythical road to nowhere, I discovered that there is indeed a Road to Nowhere;<\/strong> it is in North Carolina, but it actually does go somewhere, it starts in Bryson City and ends at a ‘tunnel to nowhere’ inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n People who were more ambitious than just building a road or a tunnel to nowhere, created a Highway to Nowhere<\/strong>, actually there\u2019s several of them, the most famous is in Baltimore, where one mile of freeway runs through a park.\u00a0 Not to be confused with AC\/DC\u2019s<\/strong> Highway to Hell<\/strong>, which it may seem like we\u2019re on right now, but there really is one of those too, in Western Australia, so named for the number of fatal accidents that occur there. What you don’t learn from these blogs!!!<\/p>\n And as we think about \u2018things to nowhere\u2019, and what more appropriate time to think about that than now, how can we Personally, I can\u2019t think of roads to anywhere without thinking of the \u2018Road to . . <\/strong>pictures;\u2019 yes, that what they called movies back in the day.\u00a0 The \u2018road pictures\u2019 starred Bob Hope<\/strong> and Bing Crosby<\/strong>, who were always in some far-off country, fighting for the affections of Dorothy Lamour<\/strong>. \u00a0And even though I knew that these movies were filmed on the back lot of the Paramount studio in Hollywood, using blackface \u2018natives\u2019 and phony sets, they gave me the travel bug and the desire to create my own \u2018Road Pictures\u2019, which I subsequently did when I traveled to a number of exotic destinations like Kathmandu<\/strong>, Tunisia<\/strong> and Zimbabwe<\/strong>. But, ironically, I have never been to any<\/span> of the seven destinations depicted in those \u2018road movies\u2019, but they’re on my bucket list!\u00a0 For the record, they are, Road to Singapore<\/strong> (Year made: 1940), Road to Zanzibar<\/strong> (1941), Zanzibar is a city on an island off the east coast of Tanzania, Africa. \u00a0Who doesn\u2019t want to go there?!!\u00a0 Road to Morocco<\/strong> (1942), Road to Utopia<\/strong> (Alaska) (1946), Road to Rio<\/strong> (de Janeiro 1947), Road to Bali<\/strong> (1952) and Road to Hong Kong<\/strong> (1962). <\/a> forget the \u2018Bridge to Nowhere\u2019<\/strong>, which got a lot of national attention when Sarah Palin<\/strong> was governor of Alaska and the Vice Presidential running mate of John McCain<\/strong> in 2008. The project encountered fierce opposition outside Alaska as a symbol of \u2018pork barrel\u2019<\/strong> spending and was never built.\u00a0 So apparently\u00a0 you\u00a0 still can’t\u00a0 get\u00a0 to\u00a0 nowhere\u00a0 from\u00a0 Alaska.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/fromabirdseyeview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/road-movies.jpg\")
<\/a>In the movies, Hope was constantly breaking the \u2018forth wall\u2019 to address the audience directly, such as when Crosby was getting ready to sing, Hope would turn to the camera and say, \u201cHe\u2019s going to sing folks, now is the time to go out and get some popcorn\u201d.<\/em> There was actually an eighth picture that was going to be made in 1977, called Road to the Fountain<\/strong> of Youth<\/strong>, ironically, Crosby died of a heart attack that year – if he could have only gotten to that Fountain of Youth!\u00a0 Little-known-and-less-cared-about-fact: Two of the very top singers of their generation, Bing Crosby<\/strong> and Elvis Presley<\/strong>, died in the same year within a couple of months of each other.<\/p>\n
